ABOUT US

The Lucky Ones Ranch is a non-profit animal sanctuary in Vacaville, California.  The Ranch was co-founded by Thao & Vince, a husband / wife duo, along with their awesome team of volunteers.  The Lucky Ones Ranch provides a forever home to animals who have been neglected, abused and/or were no longer wanted.   The Ranch is home to 8 horses, 2 donkeys, 2 llamas, 4 goats, 4 sheep, 16 pot bellied pigs, 2 guinea pigs, 14 dogs, 5 cats, 9 rabbits, 2 tortoises and many feathered friends.

During most of the year, the Ranch provides a special and fun venue for kids and adults to have a unique and up close interaction with the rescued animals. The Ranch hosts tours and has special seasonal events to help pay for the monthly hay bill of $1200.  With over 100 animals to care for and feed, it can get quite expensive!

Happy Fonzie Friday! Even though Fonzie looks a Happy Fonzie Friday!

Even though Fonzie looks a little pensive. Lol. Between his shaking and typical Cattle Dog side eye... it's always hard to get a good picture of Fonzie smiling!

Thank you all of you who have ordered rubber mats for us. We appreciate your love, support and birthday wishes to Vince!

Thank you Bruce from Alaska for sending a bag of G Thank you Bruce from Alaska for sending a bag of Glycoflex3 every month. Most of our sanctuary dogs are over 11 years old. They have aches and pains as they get older.

We saw very good results with Eddy when we started him on the Glycoflex3. Bruce reached out to us and asked us what we needed most on a frequent basis.. so we told him about the supplement.

Now that Eddy has passed, we are still receiving a monthly bag because Edgar and the other dogs can benefit from it as well.

Thank you Bruce for being the good in the world. ❤🐾

(The ear poking up behind Edgar belongs to Chowder. 😂 He also gets the supplements.)

Mystery solved on my Vietnamese mother sent me a 🐰 emoji instead of the 🐈 emoji.

My mom is hilarious.

And she wondered why we took a picture with the rabbits instead of the cats and sent it to her. 🤦‍♀️

Now, I've got to do another picture with the cats! 🤣🤣

Saturday night, 9pm And because it's not raining Saturday night, 9pm

And because it's not raining (yay!), we're outside putting Fonzie's new utility cart together. His 'chariot' aka stroller was not suitable for our rough and muddy conditions. We week reserve that for outings in town.

So, we got him a nifty all terrain cart that we can easily hose down and will withstand the elements.

This year, we want to really focus on the ranch and the animals that we have already have in our care. We have committed to caring for the sanctuary animals for the rest of their lives. And considering that many of our animals live for a very long time.. that's quite a commitment!

That all takes time, dedication and funds!

It's not as exciting as bringing on a new rescue, we know. We could easily and irresponsibly take on dozens more animals. We have the room. But that would be unfair to the ones who are already here and would add more work for us and the volunteers.

And because we have room, we were able to juggle around animals to different parts of the sanctuary when their pens flooded.

We will occasionally take in an animal or two, over the year who really could use a new home and that would not impact us too greatly. In fact, we took in a sweet girl a few days after the new year..we will tell you about her soon. She's a little shy.

Anyway, if you ever wonder what we do during the day and into the night.. it's something mundane, but something necessary for health and comfort of the sanctuary animals.

Thank you for your support. ❤
I swear... these dogs. Dodger!! 🤦‍♀️ I I swear... these dogs. Dodger!! 🤦‍♀️

I asked Vince to take a picture of me wearing my new rain/snowsuit, headlamp and gloves. And unbeknownst to me, the dogs were doing this next to me. 🙈🙈

Thank you Julie T. for the lights and Nanci for the gloves. We received additional lights and gloves without name tags. We appreciate your gifts to us.

When I was in middle school, my late step-father Steve let me watch the movie, 'Animal House'. (So inappropriate, but hey.. that was the 80's. 😂) I sometimes feel like I'm in that movie, but the ranch edition. 😜
Happy Birthday to our adorable, yet grumpy Chowder Happy Birthday to our adorable, yet grumpy Chowder! He's all ears and then some!

One year ago today, we brought Chowder home from Arizona. He was so quiet and aloof. It took him weeks to decompress and to come out of the garage.

Eventually, he ventured farther out and joined the pack. He now is now the loudest and barks the most. Chowder likes to chase after Dodger and bark. Did we tell you that he likes to bark? 🤣

When he's resting, he still loves to lay on the soft kitchen mats that supporters sent to us.

It's been a long process of getting Chowder healthy. He is at a good weight at about 80 pounds instead of 105. He gets medicated baths every two weeks to help keep his skin from infection. And he's on a thyroid medication and gets an ointment in his left eye to prevent dryness.

We're not sure exactly how old Chowder is, but the shelter listed him at 10 years old. So we're going to celebrate his 11th birthday today!

Happy Birthday big guy! 🥳

It's a little past midnight. Most of you are aslee It's a little past midnight. Most of you are asleep and will read this in the morning.

Living with over 100 animals is something else. But you add Dodger to the mix and it's just insanity. 😫🤬😂

He can literally jump and frolic in all types of water troughs around the ranch. Little ones, big ones, deep ones...Dodger is constantly wet and dirty.

The recent rains have made a muddy mess out of the ranch. I've almost lost a boot or two in the thick mud. But there's Dodger in all of the mess. But before going in, we have to spray him down and then he goes into the heated garage to dry off. Then, he can come inside.

At 1130pm, after we got dumped on by a fierce rainstorm for a few hours, Dodger wanted to go outside. But unlike all the other dogs, he refused to be caught to be sprayed down. So, I put him in the garage and told him he would have to sleep in there because he was dirty.

Of course, Dodger didn't like that and he barked every few minutes. So at midnight, I put my rain pants and boots back on to wash him. This time, Dodger complied and actually stood still while I sprayed him.

We then went inside the house and he found this carrot that Tommy didn't want to eat. And Dodger picked it up and pranced around the house with it.

Then he jumped into my bed and proceeded to chew it into little pieces. Ohhhh heck no! I had to draw the line. I took away his carrot but showed him where I put it and told him that he could have it in the morning.

Now, mom's favorite a s s h o l e (that's really on his ID tag) is fast asleep. And I'm wide awake. 😜

Good night/ good morning everyone! 😂 #LORDodger
