Our Lucky Ones Ranch destroyed by LNU Complex Fire

On August 19, 2020, the Lucky Ones Ranch was burned to the ground by the LNU Lightning Complex Fire.

Our piece of ‘heaven on earth’, the beloved forever home to many previously neglected / unwanted / ‘damaged’ animals was gone.  It’s a hard reality, but it was our reality.

Please watch news segment below and see more ways how you can help.

Abby is home and resting! As many of you know, s Abby is home and resting! As many of you know, she had an appointment this morning to get spayed. But that did not happen. 🤦‍♀️

Seriously?!! Seriously.

What are the chances that a 1 year old German Shepherd running around the streets of Sacramento would already be spayed? Especially after the pandemic and the scarcity of low-cost spay and neuter clinics.

Well.. it appears that Abby has already been spayed!!

Dr. Riddle noticed not one, but two scar marks on Abby's belly. But neither one were in areas that she would have done for a spay. So, not taking chances and assuming that Abby was spayed, she went in to confirm that Abby had no uterus.

And nope, nada, nothing.

Big sigh!!! So that means she's been fixed this whole time and this is her already 'calmed down'. 😭😭😱😱🤣🤣 So many emotions.

So now we let her heal and rest. And we definitely have our work cut out for us, but we're up for the challenge. Thank you for your support and we're glad others are sharing stories about their reactive dogs.

Up before the sun rose, 4 hours of sleep, no mak Up before the sun rose, 4 hours of sleep, no makeup on, ranch cap on in lieu of not brushing my hair...

I got up super early to take Abby to get spayed today! ...Unlike Rosette (and her endless false pregnancy drama 🤦‍♀️)!

Despite getting 200 mg Trazadone last night and early this morning, Abby knew something was up. She got too squirrelly for the blue muzzle, so I had to use this one in its place. But I was able to switch it out once we got to the vet. The blue one with its openness is safer to use in case she vomits when they give her the sedation injection.

Big thanks to our supporters who have helped cover all of Abby's vet bills from her Giardia to today's spay.

We have not received any kind of support from the other rescue organization that originally pulled Abby from the Front Street Shelter. Only our inner circle knows all of the absurd details that lead us to taking over Abby's care and ultimately taking her in as a ranch resident.

And that's the bottom line with us... the welfare of the animal. We did a courtesy transport to help out a dog who was slated to be euthanized. But we ended up with the dog and her bills.

But that's okay because every animal that crosses our path is a blessing and a lesson. And Abby is no exception to that. 💗 We're looking forward to having her come home soon!

Julia is our 5 year old Broad Breasted Bronze Turk Julia is our 5 year old Broad Breasted Bronze Turkey and she is about 27 pounds. Being such a big girl, she's prone to overheating.

On days over 80 degrees, we move her into garage with the air conditioner set at 65 degrees. Julia is one cool turkey!
Several of you have asked where we got this awesom Several of you have asked where we got this awesome muzzle for Abby. We love it. It's soft and pliable. She's able play and drink with it on.

Please inquire with Rob at NexGen K9 Training for a muzzle.

This is Chowder after his Adequan injections! We This is Chowder after his Adequan injections!

We have completed 4 weeks of twice a week injections for Chowder. To save money, we purchased the vials from Chewy and then had the vet techs give him the intramuscular injections.

He's running around and just so full of himself now. Oh boy. 🤦‍♀️🙄🤣

Adequan® Canine (polysulfated glycosaminoglycan) is the only FDA-approved disease-modifying osteoarthritis drug (DMOAD) that inhibits cartilage loss in the dog's synovial joints, and may help to:

Restore joint lubrication

Relieve inflammation

Renew the building blocks of healthy cartilage

Dog crates, kennels and igloos... oh my! If anyon Dog crates, kennels and igloos... oh my!

If anyone in our local community (Vacaville and surrounding area) is in need of a crate, house or igloo for their dog, please reach out to us!

We have been given a variety of these items and would like to rehome them to those who could use them. They are in relatively good condition. We collected them in hopes that people in our community could use them.

Please send us a message if you or know someone who could use a crate or doggy house!

Thank you Lindsay of Doggie Designs for always doi Thank you Lindsay of Doggie Designs for always doing a great grooming job on the ranch dogs. Every two weeks, Chowder gets a medicated bath with special shampoo from the vet. And today, Henry also got a bath and he later went to the vet for his weekly acupuncture treatment.

Nearly every day is busy for us, but Fridays are exceptionally busy when are shuttling dogs to the groomers and to the vet (40 minutes away). We appreciate your donations that make it possible that the sanctuary animals receive the proper care that they need.

After dropping Sully off at the vet hospital to ha After dropping Sully off at the vet hospital to have his mass removed, we made the drive out to Grass Valley to visit our former foster animals, Shasta the Cattle Dog and Feather, the Alpine Goat who was severely burned in a wildfire.

A little back story: Feather and her goat friends lost their home to the horrific and fast moving 'Camp Fire' in Paradise, CA in November 2018. We offered to take in Feather after her 2.5 week stay at UC Davis. She had been so burned that her owner, Jim did not initially recognize her.

For several months, we washed her healing wounds with a Betadine wash, slathered her burnt skin with Manuka Honey and applied eye ointments to her damaged eyes several times a day.

Feather loved to nibble on my ear. It was her way of showing her affection towards me. She is very sweet but selective on who she would do that to.

We spent some time with Feather yesterday and it was so rewarding to see her. She's very old and arthritic now. But she nibbles still nibbles on Jim's ears!

We love that we were an integral part of Feather's rescue story from the fire. 💗🐐
