Cake
HEELER MIX
From: Tucson, Arizona
Adopted: March 26, 2024
With the sudden loss of Bentley and Henry, we were compelled to rescue another dog despite still being in mourning for our two originals. Something drew Thao to look at the Pima Animal Care Center, where they had previously rescued Rocky and Chowder.
On a volunteer-run FB page, Thao was drawn to a picture of a dog sitting like a typical Cattle Dog, with his legs to the side. The dog's name..."Cake". And we all know that cake makes everything better! Cake was found on February 25, 2024. He had wandered into a Tucson area yard. The finder said he was crying and had a wound on his right leg.
Cake's finder brought him to Pima Animal Care Center in hopes of reuniting him with his owner. But no one came for him. The shelter vet thought his right leg wound was 'self-mutilation'. Cake also had a
massive the vet used a catheter to relieve him. They also gave him subcutaneous fluids for his constipation.
From x-rays taken by our vet, it appears that Cake was shot with a BB gun. He has a BB on his right side. He also has a mysterious needle-like object on his left side. Both appear to be not bothering Cake, so we will not pursue removing them surgically.
We believe Cake is about 8 years old. He is overweight by 15 pounds. We rescued him at 60 pounds but he was definitely someone's indoor dog. He has no elbow pads and was familiar with being in a groomer’s shop and being bathed and dried.
Cake loves everyone and everyone loves Cake. He has integrated into our sanctuary seamlessly..as if he's lived with us his whole life. Cake will make a great addition to our pet therapy team.
