On Jan 2, 2024, Elliott was abandoned and found wandering in a parking garage in Cary, North Carolina. The shelter vet examined him and aged him to be about 12 years old. The vet detected a heart murmur and saw a considerable mass growing on Elliott's left side. The shelter hoped his owner would come and claim him and no one did. They put out a plea to NC dog rescue organizations to take Elliott. No dog should be in the shelter, let alone a senior dog with a mass. One rescue declined to help Elliott because he was "Not Cattle Dog enough".

We definitely saw Cattle Dog in Elliott, but more importantly, we saw a dog, a possible hospice case, desperately needed help.

So despite being on the opposite side of the US, we stepped up to help Elliott... to not only get all of his medical issues addressed, but also to provide him a forever home for the rest of his life, regardless of how long that would be.
