Gina

Gina is 15 years old and is the Queen of the Pantry. Every morning, she greets the volunteers with persistent meows and demands them to stop whatever they're doing to pet her.

Before the fire, Gina lived in the house with us. We then took in a barn cat who eventually found out that living inside the house suited her better. Unfortunately, Gina despised the other cat and we ended up having Gina living downstairs while the other cat, Maggie (yeah we have two Maggies) lived upstairs.

During the night of the fire evacuation, we almost lost Gina. We had stored crates in the trailer, but the sheep were loaded into the trailer before I could get the empty transport crates out.

So we grabbed Gina's wire crate that we had used to feed her and to keep the dogs from eating her food. It had a tray at the bottom of it. But, when we carried her out while she was inside the crate, the tray slipped out and Gina fell out. She initially took off and I was beside myself.

I calmly called Gina back to me and I was able to grab her and we put her in another crate. You can see the crate at the bottom right in picture below. Yeah.. that's what our house looked like on August 24, 2020. We were left with just bricks and ashes.

But that old place also left us and many people with many good memories. And we're so grateful that we got Gina and most of the other animals out. We are still missing one cat, Tigerlily.

Gina did not adjust very well into our one story home with the other cats. After the fire, we made all of the cats into indoor only cats. We reluctantly moved Gina into our 12 stall barn. But surprisingly, she happily took on her new role of being a barn cat.

And every morning, she's there to greet everyone!
