February 2024: A Month of Healing, Growth, and Heartfelt Celebrations
February at Lucky Ones Ranch was filled with a flurry of activities, veterinary appointments, and moments of community engagement. Here's a roundup of our notable events for the month:
February 3: Zoom Call with FOX News

February 4: Buttons' Gotcha Day Celebration
We celebrated the Gotcha Day of our Suffolk Sheep, Buttons, from 2020.
February 9: Grooming and Acupuncture
Scheduled grooming appointments with Lindsay at Doggie Design for Henry & Chowder, totaling $90. Additionally, Henry and Elliott made a trip to Southampton Pet Hospital where Henry received acupuncture, and Elliott had sutures from his mass removal surgery removed, with a total cost of $410.43.
February 12: Celebrating the Lucky 8 Pigs' Gotcha Day
Celebrated the Gotcha Day of the Lucky 8 Pigs from Grass Valley that were rescued in 2022.
February 13: Consultation for Elliott
Elliott underwent a consultation at Pacific Veterinary Emergency and Specialty Hospital in Lafayette for the treatment of the soft tissue sarcoma (cancer) on his abdomen. Additionally, he was diagnosed with a tick-borne disease, requiring immediate medication for 28 days. The appointment cost $1,445.91.
February 15: Birthday Celebration for Baguette & Brioche
Celebrated the 3rd birthday of sisters, Baguette & Brioche, our Border Leicester sheep.
February 16: Medical Procedures and Welcoming New Goats
Sully underwent another debulking procedure to remove more of the cancerous mass on his leg. Sully's procedure was $859.76. Farrier trim appointments were also arranged for Ziggy & Marley, Little Ethel, and Aliyah, costing $200. Donkey sedation cost $270. We welcomed Honey & Stinky, 2 Nigerian dwarf goats, from Grass Valley, with medical examinations prior to their transfer costing $407.25.
February 17: Sully's Return Home
Sully is out of the hospital and back home! We picked up Sully from Loomis Basin Vet, welcomed him home and made him comfortable and happy. Sully stayed in his isolation pen but this time, his best friend, Hudson, was with him.
February 21: Annual Vet Exam for Gina
Gina, our 16-year-old black and white cat, had her annual vet exam and considering her age, she's doing fantastic. Her vet exam cost $458.10. Elliott received a Cytopoint injection to help with his itchy skin, costing $174.27.
February 23: Procurement and Medical Appointments
Purchased raw dog food from Mad Butcher Meat Co., amounting to $493.94. Grooming sessions were arranged for Tommy & Edgar, costing $90. Bentley received acupuncture, costing $275.88. Gabriel had his eye checked and received a Librela Shot to help with his stiff back, with expenses totaling $400.41. Participated in a FOX40 interview for Thaoβs Nomination for Remarkable Women 2024. February 27: Barn Expansion and Medical Procedures
Thanks to your generous donations, we expanded our barn by adding two more stalls, transforming it from a 14-stall to a 16-stall barn. Long Run Ranch initiated the barn stall installations, with the project totaling $12,000. Additionally, Rosie underwent spaying, incurring expenses of $1,003.78. Furthermore, Elliott underwent the initial round of electrochemotherapy at Pacific Veterinary Emergency and Specialty Hospital, with costs amounting to $1,454.68.
February 28: Hay Delivery and Barn Completion
We received a delivery of 80 bales of hay from Atkinson Hay, totaling $1,270.00 in expenses to ensure our animals are well-fed. Additionally, Long Run Ranch finished the barn stall addition, providing Honey and Feather, our two new goats, with their own sheltered stall to keep them safe from the elements.
February 29: Pet Therapy Session
Conducted Pet Therapy at Pacifica Senior Living with Henry, Mikey, and Holly.
