Annie
BARBADOS SHEEP
From: California
Adopted: 2018
Meet Annie, a remarkable Barbados Blackbelly sheep who found her way to our sanctuary in 2018. Her journey began when a compassionate individual took her in, having discovered her through a Craigslist post just ten days prior.
Annie's story took a heart-wrenching turn when it was revealed that her leg injury was far more severe than initially believed – she had a compound fracture, with bone protruding through her skin. The situation was dire, and the pungent odor of decaying flesh upon removal of her splint was overwhelming.
Dr. Varga of Gold Coast Veterinary Service & Consulting stepped in to address Annie's excruciating condition. Witnessing the flies landing on her open wound was a heartbreaking moment, evoking a mix of emotions including disgust, sadness, and anger. Annie had endured approximately two weeks of unimaginable pain.
In the following days, the decision was made to perform an amputation at the sanctuary to alleviate her suffering. Although efforts were made to provide her with a prosthetic leg, Annie proved that she was content with her new life as a triumphant "tripod."
Annie's story is a testament to her resilience and unwavering spirit, and it serves as a reminder of the incredible strength that animals can display even in the face of adversity.
