Junior
GOLDEN RETRIEVER MIX
From: Tucson, Arizona
Adopted: April 26, 2024
At 14 years old, Junior, a Golden Retriever/Chow mix was surrendered by his owner to the Pima Animal Care Center in Tucson, Arizona. On the surrender paperwork, the owner stated he had a court order to surrender Junior. Additionally, Junior was constantly breaking out of their fencing and they did not have time to deal with him anymore.
With his adorable face and easy going personality, the shelter placed Junior in the lobby to make sure everyone saw him. The shelter was packed with over 550 dogs when it's supposed to hold only 450 dogs. About a week later, Junior was adopted. Unfortunately, the resident dog was bullying Junior, so he was promptly returned the next day. He also picked up a doggy cold and was put on antibiotics and tucked away in an isolation kennel.. far away from anyone's view.
Upon seeing the sad update on Junior, we decided to pull him from PACC. He reminded us of Henry, whom we lost just a few before.. but a junior size at 45 pounds instead of 80 pounds.
Junior must have done alot of damage to his teeth in his attempts to escape his former backyard. The shelter extracted 8 of his teeth, including 3 out of 4 k9 teeth. His tongue hangs out to the right side because there's no tooth to hold it in. And much to our surprise, we discovered that Junior is essentially deaf. He can only hear if we yell loudly. Initially, we have had some rough days integrating him into ranch life. He has separation anxiety which is probably made worse by not being able to hear very well.. so he wants to stick close to us.
We're so grateful for your support in being able to rescue Junior!
